Scott Hooper
Race: | Senate |
District: | 12 |
VPS - Primary
Occupation: Farmer/Rancher, retired attorney, full-time husband and dad
Occupational Background: Attorney since 1988, cattle rancher for over 20 years, small business owner – restoring affordable rental properties.
Educational Background: B.S. Business Administration, University of Tennessee; Juris Doctor with Honors, University of Tennessee College of Law
Prior Governmental Experience: None – Political outsider, but have been helping people solve difficult problems in the private sector for nearly 40 years.
Scott embodies small-town values, competence, and character. He’s committed to setting aside politics as usual in order to get back to the basics: solid education for our kids, strong communities and businesses, good jobs, happy families, and humble service.
He will:
- Show up: When I’m hired to do a job, I show up ready to work, to solve problems, and to find common ground, even when it’s difficult.
- Approach problems rationally: It’s time we started working together to make a better tomorrow for our kids.
- Fight for local solutions & control. Our problems require a solution tailored to small cities and rural communities. We can clean up our communities and build a beautiful tomorrow for all of us, especially our kids and grandkids. Strong leadership in this district will allow us to build for ourselves. We need more of our tax dollars to stay local.
- Support farmers, ranchers, small businesses, and working families.
- Address our housing and homelessness crisis. Yamhill and Polk Counties are facing the same homeless and inadequate housing crises found in big cities. We must act now to help our neighbors and provide solutions that are tailored to small cities and rural communities.
- Defend women’s right to reproductive health care and fight for medical autonomy for all.
- Deliver for students, parents, and educators. We need to raise graduation and literacy rates, and build apprenticeships, training, and education programs. I oppose all efforts to defund our public schools, to politicize our schools, or to ban books in our libraries.
