Occupation: Oregon State Representative, House District 18

Occupational Background: Retired law enforcement officer with more than 28 years as a Chief of Police in 3 Oregon cities

Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree Criminal Justice – University of Wyoming

Prior Governmental Experience: A lifetime of public service including service in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971, followed by 2 years in the National Guard. I served as a law enforcement officer for 39+ years including more than 28 years as an Oregon Police Chief. I served as an International Police Trainer for the U.S. Department of Justice in Baghdad, Iraq in 2005, training the Iraqi police leadership. I was the interim City Manager in Silverton for 6 months and retired from law enforcement in 2012. I was elected to 2 terms as Mayor of Silverton, and I resigned as Mayor in early 2017 to accept an appointment as State Representative for House District 18. I was elected to a 3rd term as State Representative in 2020.

My Legislative Priorities:

  • Supporting law enforcement officers and safe communities
  • Push for accountability in the Measure 110 drug treatment funding
  • Halting the erosion of law and order across Oregon
  • Combatting inflation and supporting efforts to lower the cost of living for working families
  • Supporting small business as the economy recovers from harmful executive orders and mandates
  • Standing against new taxes and cutting back on wasteful government programs
  • Ensuring veterans receive quality care and necessary programs
  • Working for affordable housing in rural Oregon
  • Standing up for small farmers against government over-regulation
