Travis Nelson: Nurse for State Representative
As a nurse and your State Representative, I see the struggles and triumphs in our community. I’ve brought home historic funding for homelessness and addiction services-but there is more to be done.
I’ve Delivered:
Local Investments: Collaborated with Albina Vision Trust to fund hundreds of affordable housing units in Lower Albina; secured $15 million for a future North Portland Aquatic Center, $1 million for the Native American Youth & Family Center; and significant funding for the Oregon Food Bank & improvements to George Park in Saint Johns.
Reproductive Healthcare: Protected your Constitutional abortion rights & gender-affirming care in Oregon.
Healthcare: Championed patient care – recognizing racism as a public health crisis and secured appropriate staff for each hospitalized patient.
Worker Protections: Shepherded legislation that protects workers from the climate crisis. Won protections for consumers ripped off by bad contractors.
I’m Fighting For:
Housing for All: We must deliver additional shelter capacity, mental health and substance abuse services, permanent supportive housing, and affordable housing.
Healthcare for All: We need low or no-cost healthcare and prescriptions.
Support for Schools: We must fully fund education and ensure students have a safe learning environment.
Equity: I’m the first Black, LGBTQ+ member of the state legislature. I bring a voice to communities who haven’t historically had a seat at the table.
