Lamar Wise

I have deep ties to this community. My mom is a small business owner and my dad has spent over two decades working at Intel. I grew up in this district, and am a proud Century High School alum.

I have been blessed to have the love and support of a close-knit, hardworking family. But things weren’t always easy for us. When I attended college at the University of Oregon, at times it was so hard to keep up with tuition and bills that I found myself couch surfing for months at a time. After college I moved back to Hillsboro and spent years working for a community nonprofit dedicated to education quality in Oregon, because I wanted to follow the example of my parents who showed me that with hard work, we can build something better, and because I knew in my heart that no young person should have to choose between getting an education and paying rent the way I had to do. When COVID-19 hit, I saw firsthand how the lack of housing assistance resources and the heightened need for mental health support here in Washington County was made worse by the pandemic. That’s why since COVID-19 started, I’ve been working with young BIPOC community organizers to help expand county budget funding for mental and public health.

I want to help Washington County build out the affordable housing we need and build out the mental health and public services infrastructure our communities need. And I want to keep this a beautiful place to live and work for all of our residents, no matter their race, faith, or zip code.

A New Deal for Rural Oregon

This campaign is about reclaiming rural Oregon and rural America, and together defining a New Deal for our region. We want to start conversations that rethink and reimagine what is possible for rural economies, education, environmental sustainability, equity, and our upcoming generation.

As your representative, I will work toward those policies that lift up all rural Oregonians. We need policy principles that are grounded in love and child-centeredness, that prioritize workers, sustainability, and enable the access to reach our full potential.

A New Deal means:

  • Rural infrastructure
  • Comprehensive healthcare for all
  • Reimaging economies
  • Union labor
  • Educational opportunity
  • Climate change mitigation
  • Ending homelessness and poverty in Oregon

Proudly supported by:

  • Working Families Party of Oregon
  • Klamath Falls Association for Classified Employees
  • Planned Parenthood Action Pac of Oregon
  • Oregon League of Conservation Voters
  • Hugh Palcic – former candidate – Senate District 28 (2020)
  • Lisa Danskin – KFEA President
  • Heather Weisener – KFEA Vice President
  • Casey Kulla – Candidate for OR Labor Commissioner

“The challenges for rural Oregon are vast, growing – and importantly, real. From climate change, rural broadband, educational opportunity, and a regional economy that works for all, a Rural New Deal provides a road map for comprehensively improving the region. And, unlike his competition, Jonathan possesses the capability to deliver.” – Hugh

“There is one candidate doing much more than just talking. This candidate is active in his beliefs of changing rural Oregon’s future. A New Deal for Rural Oregon is for the people, supported by the people. Rural Oregon needs to be lifted up! We deserve it. Rethink. Reimagine. Reclaim Rural Oregon.” – KFEA

Central Oregon needs a commonsense conservative voice in Salem. I’m a businessperson, not a politician or lawyer. With about $26.8 Billion of your tax dollars at stake in Oregon’s budget, we need businesspeople, not lawyers, stewarding wise investment of your money.

Problem Solver/Solution Finder

I’m a lifelong entrepreneur. Even as a 1st Lieutenant and Captain I was appointed to run some of the most innovative and high-profile programs for NATO forces during the Cold War. As an Army Ranger School graduate and Officer, I learned resourcefulness, contingency planning and how to develop creative solutions to extremely complex problems in high-stakes, high-stress environments. Decades of mergers and acquisitions experience built the skill of achieving goals through clarity of focus, empathy, and negotiation.

Servant Leadership with Compassion

Balanced leadership requires life experience, maturity and compassion. Some of my life experiences relevant to understanding and serving all constituents; born extremely poor, worked fields starting at age three, raised as a minority on the Navajo Nation; part of a Hispanic family through college; worked in largely Black communities three summers during college; led mostly inner-city men and women soldiers in Germany; served business clients of every culture, creed, gender and age in the melting pot of Silicon Valley; 30 years with previous wife, who suffered severe addiction and mental health challenges until her horrific death; was a single dad; now happily remarried with blended family of six kids and four grandkids; strong Christian faith forged through life experiences.

I’m asking for your vote, so I can be a commonsense Voice for Central Oregon in Salem.

The status quo isn't working for North Portland.

North Portland is struggling with safety, homelessness, and lack of access to services. Our system is failing working families, small businesses, and students. Our elected officials say the right things but aren't offering real solutions. Without a clear vision from our leaders, we lose.

When we're all involved, no challenge is too great.

I'm not a politician or part of the political establishment, but I've talked to thousands of district residents. They tell me that every level of government needs to focus on homelessness and safety – we need a long-term plan. Portlanders have shown willingness to invest resources to make a difference. We can help those experiencing homelessness and drug addiction by quickly deploying transitional housing, care, and wraparound services. We also must address the root causes of our current challenges.

I'm an educator, small business owner, and longtime leader in our community. I understand there are multiple paths to opportunity, to fixing our state's problems, and it starts with education. I will lead a serious investment in education access, trade apprenticeships, and re-establish our legislature's Higher Education Committee.

In Portland, I've spent years advocating for LGBTQA+ rights at Basic Rights Oregon and immigrants' rights through Causa. I have been a queer activist for 30+ years, an education professional for 25+ years, and a North Portland resident for 20+ years. These experiences did not involve politics. They were about empathy, collaboration, and creating direct change within our community. That's the leadership we need.

Endorsed by: Oregon Progressive Party, Former Multnomah County DA Rod Underhill, Senator Elizabeth Steiner Hayward, former Senator Mark Hass, and several educators, community, and business leaders who serve our North Portland community at www.EricDelehoy.com.

Jeff Gowing

Occupation: Millwright

Occupational Background: 6 Years U S Army, 33 years Wood Products/Sawmill

Educational Background: Lane Community College Millwright Apprenticeship

Prior Governmental Experience: Cottage Grove City Council 2009-2016, Cottage Grove Mayor 2017-present

Jeff Gowing

Candidate for House District 12

Jeff Gowing is a fourth generation Oregonian and a life-long resident of Lane County. Most members of the community of Cottage Grove know Jeff by his first name, regardless of their demographics. A graduate of Cottage Grove High School, Jeff served 6 years in the United States Army. In 1989 Jeff began his career at Weyerhaeuser Company in Cottage Grove. He worked in several departments at the mill and is currently working as a Millwright. Jeff has three adult children and four grandchildren. He and his wife, Celia reside in Cottage Grove.

During the last 3 decades, Jeff 's involvement in the Timber Industry has taught him the value of the industry in his community and the state. Timber dollars, logging, land use, watersheds, conservation, and environmental concerns are all a part of the experiences he has had during his career. Serving as an elected official has fine-tuned Jeff’s desire to continue serving his community. Jeff strongly believes in working together; collaborating with all communities and finding solutions that work for all

Some of the reasons that Jeff feels the call to action at a higher, more effective level are:

  • State Legislators have lost focus on the rural communities
  • More equitable policies for the smaller cities
  • Legislators need to be more visible in their District
  • More productive work across party lines
  • Commitment to sustainable solutions to the unhoused and mental health crisis

Jeff's public service includes: Mayor of Cottage Grove since 2017; City Council, Cottage Grove 2009-16; Current President of the Oregon Mayor’s Association; Past Chair Lane Area Commission on Transportation and Board Member for the Coast Fork Water Shed Council.
