Jason Kropf: Standing Up for Bend’s Values

A father, husband, fourth-generation Oregonian, and public school graduate, Jason brings Bend’s values to Salem.

As our State Representative, Jason has kept his promise, delivering for us in Salem on the issues that matter most, including:

  • Strengthening our public schools by passing the largest K-12 budget in state history, working to reopen our schools safely, and delivering investments in career and technical education and affordable college.
  • Tackling the homelessness and the affordable housing crisis by championing legislation to build more affordable housing here in Bend and create a County-wide coordinated response to homelessness by making targeted investments to help get people off the streets and into stable housing.
  • Fighting for an economy that works for every Oregonian, including investing in living wage jobs, expanding access to childcare, and creating job training and workforce development programs.
  • Advocating for affordable, accessible health care, by lowering prescription costs and expanding access to mental health care.
  • Taking climate action by putting Oregon on the path to 100% clean energy by 2040, creating green energy jobs, and mitigating the risk of wildfire.
  • Working for a safer, more just Oregon by investing in crime and violence prevention programs and funding programs to help survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

As we rebuild, Jason will fight to build an economy that works for all Oregonians by creating affordable housing, driving down the cost of living, supporting small businesses, making our communities safe for all Oregonians, and strengthening our schools.

Bringing People Together. Getting Things Done.

As your State Representative, I fought for conservative values. I still hold these principals, but much has changed since I served. Salem Politicians are out of control. In law enforcement, I held people accountable, and in Salem, I'll do the same.

Defending Law Enforcement; Men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect us deserve better. We must not tolerate the rhetoric that Oregon should “defund police”. As a military veteran and former police officer, I'll stand up every day to protect those who protect us.

Ending Government Overreach; For two years, the Democrat-majority in the Legislature did nothing to stop Kate Brown’s mandates and executive orders that controlled our lives, shut down businesses, and harmed our kids’ education. The results were devastating. We live in a free country. It’s time our elected leaders start acting like it.

Investing in Education: As a father, I know the importance of funding public education and ensuring our schools work for our children. Additionally, we must teach our children to be independent thinkers and schools must engage parents transparently about curriculum.

Promoting Economic Growth: Without small business, Oregon’s economy suffers. As an Economic Development and Trade member, I helped develop and grow businesses in our community. Attracting stable, good-paying jobs to our District continues to be my focus.

Jeff Reardon

Born and raised in the blue-collar town of Kelso, Washington, Jeff Reardon learned the values of thrift and hard work from an early age. Jeff is a Vietnam Era Veteran who earned the highest rating possible during his term, E5, while serving on a nuclear submarine in the Western Pacific. His Naval service earned him the G.I. Bill so he could afford to become the first college graduate in his family. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Western Washington University.

Jeff began his career as a teacher in the Parkrose School District where he taught Industrial Arts for five years before taking a job at Tektronix. During his 21-year career there, Jeff advanced from technical writer to corporate communications manager. While working at Tektronix, Jeff continued to devote time to his lifelong passion of education by serving on the David Douglas School Board for a decade.

Jeff later went on to teach at David Douglas High School, educating students in the career-technical field for another decade. He retired from teaching in June.

As a lifelong educator, Jeff knows investments in our schools are critical to the success of our students and our state. He has seen firsthand how cuts make it increasingly difficult for teachers to provide a quality education as class sizes swell and the school year shortens. When elected to the legislature, Jeff will bring his lifetime of experience to the table to solidify funding for education so our students receive the education and attention they deserve.

Jeff knows that if we’re going to improve our economy now and in the future, Oregon must have a stronger manufacturing base. He and believes funding in career-technical education is a fundamental building block. In Salem, Jeff will advocate for these programs and make sure the state is a partner in private-sector job creation.

Jeff lives in East Portland with his wife, Annette Mattson. They have four daughters and are proud they’ve all graduated from Oregon universities.

Occupation: State Representative

Occupational Background: Heavy Equipment Manufacturing, Computer Chip Manufacturing, Economic Development, Software Support Center, Retail Sales

Educational Background: BS Degree, University of Oregon, AA Degree, Lane Community College, Thurston High School

Prior Governmental Experience: State Representative, City Council Member and Mayor City of Springfield

I was born in LaGrande, Oregon and lived in Wallowa, Oregon until I was a junior in high school when my family moved to Springfield in 1963. I attended Thurston High School and have always resided in Springfield except for the time I served in the US Army Security Agency from 1968 to 1971. My wife and I raised our two daughters here and now enjoy watching our five grandchildren grow up here. Three attend Middle School in Springfield, one is in High School, and one is attending the University of Oregon. My years as your State Representative, professional career and community involvement prepared me well to understand the needs of Springfield and how to represent them while respecting our differences.

This past session I served as Chair of the House Committee on Economic Recovery and Prosperity and as a member of the Committee on Behavioral Health and Early Childhood. I also continue to serve on the Road User Fee Task Force, Oregon Growth Board, the Cultural Trust Board, and several others in my capacity as your state representative.

Challenges were many this past year, but fortunately we had increased revenue which allowed us to invest in one-time expenditures to position the state and our communities to provide support for so many who need it. New investments in Housing, Behavioral Health Services, Education, and economic recovery are areas impacting every corner of our state, and our community. Work is still needed, and I look forward to continuing to represent you at future sessions to collaborate with my colleagues to find solutions for our state.
